Pro Circuit Update, US Men Advance to Davis Cup Semifinals

It's a travel day for me, so this is a quick early post to catch up on last week's USTA Pro Circuit results.

ITF junior No. 1 Whitney Osuigwe won the doubles title at the $25,000 women's event in Jackson, Mississippi, with former North Carolina star Sanaz Marand.  Osuigwe, who reached the singles semifinals as a qualifier, and Marand were the No. 4 seeds.  They defeated Gaia Sanesi of Italy and Chanel Simmonds of South Africa 6-1, 6-3 in the final, and did not lose more than four games in any set.  It's Osuigwe's second doubles title on the Pro Circuit in the past two months.  Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine won the singles title, beating Sanesi 6-0, 6-1 in the final.

At the men's $25,000 Futures in Memphis, top seed Scott Griekspoor of the Netherlands beat former Pepperdine star Sebastian Fanselow of Germany, the No. 6 seed, 6-7(3), 6-4, 7-5 in the singles final.  Former Cal teammates Andre Goransson of Sweden and Florian Lakat of France, the top seeds, won the doubles title, beating Scott Griekspoor of the Netherlands and Yannick Mertens of Belgium 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 in the final.

This week the men are in Little Rock Arkansas for another $25,000 Futures.

The women have two USTA Pro Circuit events this week, the $25,000 tournament in Pelham Alabama and the $60,000 tournament in Indian Harbour Beach Florida.

The tournament in Florida kicks off the USTA's Roland Garros Wild Card Challenge.

In Nashville, the US Davis Cup team advanced to September's semifinals with a 4-0 win over Belgium, with John Isner, Sam Querrey and the doubles team of Jack Sock and Ryan Harrison recording victories.  The team will travel to Croatia the week after the US Open for the tie.
