Timothy Neilly Wins 2004 Orange Bowl All-American Final

News - View Article - Timothy Neilly Wins 2004 Orange Bowl All-American Final
I made my first visit to the prestigious Orange Bowl tournament in December, and wrote this story about the final. I was very impressed by the number of reps, agents and coaches attending. Very similar to Kalamazoo in that regard, but the site lacks the stadium/ show court architecture that makes Kalamazoo such a great spectator venue.

A Tribute to Okechi Womeodu

Womeoduusopen04
The junior tennis community was stunned to learn that Okechi Womeodu collapsed and died on November 10, 2004 during an indoor soccer game in his hometown of Memphis. A vibrant young man, Okechi was always ready with a smile; his considerable tennis talent never isolated him from others, indeed he combined it with his personality to draw others to him. In our overwhelming sense of loss, there is comfort in knowing he had recently achieved one of his goals, playing in the U.S. Open. This photo, taken during his doubles match, captured his attitude of playing hard but enjoying the game. His legacy is that spirit.

Tennis.com -Junior Stars Become Davis Cup Hitting Partners

Tennis.com - (Exp:10:26:29 PM) - ProGame - Full Story
This is a story I wrote back in September about Scott Oudsema and Scoville Jenkins, who were named Davis Cup hitting partners for the Charleston tie by Patrick McEnroe. It was a kick to see both of them just a few weeks after they met in the finals in Kalamazoo, and they looked to be having a great time with the Bryans, Fish and Roddick.

Great Britain's Andrew Murray Raises Great Expectations with 2004 US Open Junior Singles Title

News - View Article - Great Britain's Andrew Murray Raises Great Expectations
My story from September when Andrew Murray took the U.S. Open Junior title, much to the delight of the extensive British press corps in attendance, primarily to follow Henman's progress. Because Henman made it through until Saturday, most were still in New York for Murray's triumph on Sunday and he has been prominent on the sporting radar of Great Britain ever since.

Evans and Oudsema Leave Junior Tennis on Top

I was getting accustomed to daily stories under deadline pressure by the time I wrote this one. It's always fun to have a championship to write about.

I was photographer and writer for three different matches on Friday, which is a good problem to have--it means junior tennis is thriving in the U.S. and the future is bright
